Travel Insurance
The activities of Hellas Canyon open a different world in nature, offering impressive images, physical exercise and sports, excitement and acquaintances with new places. By that logic, there are inherent risks beyond which you could reasonably expect to stay in your own country. Some of the reasons why they may be exposed to different and wider experiences and risks include:
Greece has different laws and regulations governing transport, infrastructure, security, etc. and may be missing compared to the laws you may have in your country.
The activities we organize, often include intense physical exercises and physical demands beyond which you can usually participate in your daily life.
In addition, these activities are organized in remote and isolated areas.
Natural events such as hurricanes, earthquakes, thunderstorms, floods, etc. can happen all over the world. Sometimes they can hit locations where we tour. The remote location of some of our excursions can synthesize the effects beyond the natural event.
Most of the people you meet on your travels will be genuine, hospitable and honest. However, as it turns out, everywhere awaits a small exception that surrounds the unsuspecting tourist.
The remote locations of some of our tours mean that support and help is not always readily available.
The infrastructure (hospitals, transport, emergency services, etc.) of Greece may be missing compared to those you may have in your country.
Hellas Canyon takes all reasonable steps to ensure your safety and enjoyment while traveling with us. The purpose of this document is to give you an idea of the ways in which you can further improve your personal safety while abroad.
First of all
There are many things you can do before you even leave your place of residence that will help you have a safe and enjoyable travel experience.
Take copies of your passport and other important documents with you. This way, if you lose your documents, you can at least present a copy to your embassy or consulate while you are abroad and have
issue temporary travel documents. A useful tip is to scan the documents and send them to your email. This way you have extra access to them online.
We suggest that you register your travel plans with your embassy or consulate before leaving your home. In the event of a serious incident, your government will be able to
to communicate and be accountable to you.
Make the appropriate insurance. No one expects an injury or accident to happen. However, we hear some unfortunate stories from travelers and they usually start with: “I never expected…”
Leave a copy of your route with friends or family.

Note the top 5 tips below:
Airplane travel
Pay attention to the update of the plane. It may seem monotonous or boring to those who travel frequently, but in case of emergency, you should know this immediately.
Count the rows at the emergency exit. In case of emergency, the lighting can be reduced.
Do not drink too much alcohol. The cabins are under pressure so that the effect of alcohol is greater than normal.
Listen to the escorts. It’s mostly there for your safety.
Keep your seat belt fastened. The disturbance can occur at any time.
Buses and trains
Keep your personal belongings in your sight or preferably above you.
A lock attached to the zippers is a good deterrent to a thief.
Watch for uneven, slippery surfaces or other obstacles when entering and exiting the vehicle.
Continue to be careful with the environment. Be aware of distractions, as they can be opportunities for pickpockets.
Taxis
If you are staying in a hotel, ask them to call you a taxi, instead of doing it yourself on the street.
Use a taxi from a taxi stand where possible. Usually only registered operators can use a taxi stand.
Keep your things on your sides or feet. If you need to get out quickly, they will be easily accessible.
In case of emergency, leave the bags. You can run faster without it and items can be replaced.
Check the driver ID before entering. Should
appears on the vehicle if it is a legal taxi.
Transportation by ships
Listen to the safety update. You need to know what to do in an emergency.
If lifebuoys are provided – use them.
Always have at least one hand free to hold something to help with your balance.
The sun is reflected by the water. Make sure you have enough
Sun protection.
Take medication for nausea before boarding – it may take some time to become effective.
Accommodation
Accommodation is generally considered a safe haven for tired travelers. However, the reality is that it is often the most likely place where accidents and thefts occur. The following can be done to increase your personal security:
When you arrive, stay with your bags until they are taken by taxi or bus to the lobby.
Lobbies can be chaotic places with lots of people coming and going. Check your bags at all times during check in and out. The busy atmosphere is a welcome distraction for opportunists.
When entering your hotel room, make sure the door closes firmly behind you and locks.
When locking the door in your room, use the security latch, the lock windows and the door doors.
Always use the “fuse hole” to see who is in the door before opening it.
Get to know the emergency number and how the telephone system works.
Store all unnecessary personal items, cash, valuables and travel documents in the safe.
Make a note of the emergency plan at the back of the hotel door. You should know this in case of an emergency.
Place your room key in the same space each time. So it is difficult to get lost, while you will know where it is in an emergency.
Use non-slip shower mats, if any.
About road traffic
One of the great ways to experience a new destination is to walk around the area! However, as everywhere, there are malicious people in the local community. There are many tips and tricks on the best way to reduce vulnerability and protect security while enjoying amazing attractions. Some of these ideas may be just common thoughts, while others you may not have thought of. Here are the top 10 ways to improve your personal safety while you’re out:
Combine as much as possible, especially in your dress and appearance. Try it
to avoid an obvious tourist appearance.
See the maps discreetly. A map identifies you as a tourist and, unfortunately, a target.
In case of disorientation, simply seek instructions from officials or persons with obvious authority such as police officers.
Stay on well-lit or busy roads. The danger is often hidden in dark and less populated areas.
Photos are essential when traveling. However, keep the camera discreet. Many point-and-shoot cameras will fit in your pocket when not in use. Do not leave larger ones hanging around your neck or other places with
simple appearance.
When withdrawing money from banking machines, try to do it during the day, in areas that move very well and use machines associated with a recognized bank, where possible. As everywhere, protect your personal PIN
covering the keyboard from prying eyes with your other hand. Once the cash is removed, take the time to make sure it is safe. Do not do this while
you walk down the street advertising the fact that you are carrying cash with you.
Leave cash, travel documents, jewelry in the hotel safe or even better at home if you do not need it so far.
An experienced wallet thief can usually pick a tourist in a crowd. Wear your wallet on your body with the opening flap on your stomach so that it is harder to steal. If you are wearing a daypack you are wearing a kangaroo style.
Where possible, avoid walking alone, especially at night. Traveling with friends gives you much less of a goal.
Take with you the hotel card that contains the name and address of the hotel. This way, even if you do not speak the language, a taxi will be able to take you back to the hotel.
